Training Gear

Jul 08, 2021

A keynote we would like to mention is that we are not affiliates for any product listed above. You may see a handful of products under the business ATAC. As far as we are concerned they seem to have popped out of nowhere and provide diving gear specifically designed for military selection courses. After testing it out compared to Amazon brands, they are on par if not better quality for a lower cost. Not only that they have some of the best service if you need to seek out further selection help.

High Volume Face Mask

The Aqua Lung Atlantis Full Face Mask is a high-quality, scuba mask that will help you dominate in the water. This mask is a little pricey. Luckily there is a better alternative! We recommend the Bermuda High Volume Mask from ATAC. ATAC Parallels Aqualung in quality, their face mask gives you full control and with fog-resistant lenses which means visibility underwater is increased. All for a fraction of the cost!

Snorkel

One of the most important aspects for a great training experience is grabbing gear that fits your needs. The right model can make all the difference in buddy breathing and recovering quickly if you lose mask or fins during an underwater excursion.

The ATAC Easy Breathe snorkel has been/is used by various selection courses, so we're confident you'll have a good time with this top notch equipment designed for tactical performance.

Rocket Fins

Finning with stiff Rocket style fins is an experience that cannot be replicated by substituting. Your legs and feet will need to experience the suck of fin swimming before going through selection so finning is a must prior to going through selection.

These fins must also be used in conjunction with booties because your feet may not hold up on their own without them - like I said, this isn't your average pair of fins here; we are talking about tools for extreme tactical training!

Zippered Dive Bootie

Tighten your fins and prepare for a new challenge. A great way to make an underwater event more challenging is by wearing these booties. These booties also work perfect with the Rocket or Jet Fins.

In order to achieve the same training as seen in selection, it's important not only to use rocket or jet fins, but also the right type of bootie .

Underwater Demolition Team (UDT) Shorts

UDT shorts are the wardrobe of choice for Navy SEALs, and have been since WWII. They're also what A&S and Air Force Dive School recruits wear during their training pool exercises.

Nylon Weight Belt w/ Buckle

For those who are aspiring to join the Spec War field, weight belts can serve a dual purpose as they are used in both the pool and on land. Not only is it important that you have one for swim exercises like ditch & don at indoc/selection, but also for when doing sprinting or other water workouts during PT sessions back home.

4 lb Lace Thru Dive Weight

It is important to be familiar with the weights that you are using before entering your selection course. Get 4 of these uncoated weights that are lace thru style, and you'll be up 16 lbs in total! When starting out we recommend going with 8lbs and working your way up.

10 mm Climbing Rope

Once you are submerged in water, it is difficult to tie knots. However, underwater knot tying can be mastered with practice and repetitiveness! The square knot requires a cord that has been cut into two equal lengths for each end of the line being knotted together.

Use this rope found on the ATAC website is an exact replica of what will be used in the selection course. Master the square knot, inside bowline, girth hitch w/ an extra turn and the single fisherman’s knot.
